LEAP Expectations and Referral Process

Expectations

Participants must demonstrate an active interest in the program. As part of the enrollment process potential participants will complete the application process, and participate in a series of interviews to identify personal goals and appropriateness of enrollment. Once enrolled participants will be expected to support  a safe, responsible, and respectful community learning environment that offers hope, inclusion and engagement opportunities. Enrolled participants will identify their needed supports, and action team members to achieve their goals.

Referral Process

Referrals for the LEAP program can be made by the potential participant, a family member or community support professionals (including education staff, social workers, probation officers or behavioral health staff). The application requires input from the potential participant and a significant adult in the participant’s life. Information pertaining to how and why they plan to be successful in a different setting and their goals for the future are explored both in the application and the interview process.

Once applications are received LEAP staff will reach out to the potential participant to review their application and set up a time to meet. Interviews with the professionals working with the potential participant may also be arranged.

Acceptance is determined by the LEAP Advisory Board. Applications will be reviewed on a monthly basis.  Anticipated enrollment timeline is around 35 business days.  During this time, the homeschool continues to provide services to the student until they complete a transitional IEP meeting.
